A subtle yet spellbinding collection of images documenting every new place Swan slept in the months following the suicide of her friend and roommate, There in Spirit is a timely consideration of the quietude of loneliness, longing, and reflection. Accompanied by the drying, cracking surface of a full moon, windows of soft light illuminate the contours of objects held within dark interior spaces. Crumpled blankets on beds and couches make evident the impact of bodies now absent. Swan’s There in Spirit holds space for our own private meditations on where we’ve been, where we are, and who we deeply miss.
